Carvajal puts pen to paper and heads to Germany

Dani Carvajal is officially a Bayer Leverkusen player. The Castilla (Real Madrid B) full-back has been at the Santiago Bernabéu ironing out the final details of his €5m move to the German club, with whom he has signed a five-year contract. Accompanied by his agents and his father, the player met with the Real Madrid chief executive José Ángel Sánchez to straighten out the nuts and bolts of the transfer. Having left the offices at the Bernabéu, he will be catching a flight to Leverkusen, where he will undergo a medical and be officially presented by the German outfit before joining up with his team-mates for pre-season training under the Finnish coach Sami Hyypiä. “I’m really pleased to have made this decision and grateful for the opportunity Bayer Leverkusen has given me. It’s a big step up for me to go from the Spanish Second Division to the Bundesliga, with the chance to play in the Europa League. This is a really big opportunity. I’m looking forward to this challenge and hope to come back to Real Madrid one day, if I’m ready”, Carvajal stated after sealing his departure from the club.
